It's been a while...

... since we've had a family day out so today we decided to pack a picnic and venture out for a few geocaches. We didn't have much success on the cache front but it was lovely getting out as a family and into the sunshine.

Music in me

My lovely sister organised a night out at the iconic Basement tonight. One of our favourites, Tim Freedman was doing a solo gig minus his Whitlams band mates. It was music the way I love it, intimate and acoustic.

I realised while at the show that many of my most vivid (and fond) memories involve music. Things like, singing in my bedroom, the music playing at full volume during my parents parties, being introduced to new albums or artists and my very first concerts to name a few. It got me contemplating how much music really does mean to me given I don't remember much else from my childhood and therefore what I should do about it...

You've got mail

One of the only good things about having family interstate is receiving parcels in the mail. It's nice to go to the letterbox and find something other than bills. Today Isaac was very excited to receive a parcel from Grandma with a gorgeous beanie she knitted for him and some car stickers.

Wannabees

While searching for some indoor activities recently I came across what looked like an amazing play centre that Isaac would love. I quickly organised a play date with another mum and today we went to check it out for ourselves.

They had the usual play equipment you would expect at an indoor play centre but what makes this place great is the imaginative play scenes they have set up. They have everything - a beauty salon, hospital, fire station, police station, gym plus lots more. Each room has equipment and costumes for the kids to really get involved. Isaac loves dressing up at home but this just took it to another level. I foresee a few more trips here in the future.

Colour hunt

Isaac is still enjoying picking games from the box to play and this morning it was a color hunt. After I explained what the game was he spent the next 10 minutes collecting all things in his chosen colour, orange. I was amazed how much stuff he easily accumulated in such a short time. He was so excited every time he found something too. We put it all onto the lounge and he took photos of it with my phone.

Among Giants

It was another great day to get out for some exercise today so we walked/rode down to the park to kick the ball around. The grounds down the road from us have Aussie Rules goal posts so Isaac likes to pretend he's playing for The Giants (his favorite sporting team). He runs around while singing the team song - very cute.

Winning solution

I have a confession - I hate playing cars. With two young boys this is a problem. Whenever Isaac wants me to play with him it's ALWAYS cars. I just don't know how many times I can 'broom' a car and make it interesting.

So today, instead of asking him what he wanted to play, I wrote down a few games/activities onto different pieces of paper, asked him to suggest some activities too (guess what he suggested) and put them into this box. I then got him to pick a piece of paper and we'd do that activity together.

I have to say, it was a great success. Apart from the benefit of spending some quality time together, he got to do some things he wouldn't normally choose to do and I got to avoid playing cars (for today anyway). He was so excited about this new way of choosing something to do that he got dad to pick a few games to play with him when he got home from his day out.
